Why is everyone rushing to the Moon?
|
Organization: Orbital Velocity
Publication: Sept. 6, 2023 India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission landed on the Moon days after Russia’s Luna 25 lander crashed. Both were targeting the lunar south pole. The recent discovery of water-ice at the Moon's south pole has prompted a resurgence in lunar exploration, with multiple countries and space agencies vying to unlock the potential of this invaluable resource for future space missions and exploration beyond our planet. |
CREW DRAGON IN-FLIGHT ABORT | Launch profile
|
Organization: Orbital Velocity
Publication: Jan. 15, 2020 As part of its certification process for NASA's Commercial Crew Program, SpaceX performed an in-flight abort test on its Crew Dragon spacecraft. The test took place just after 15:30 UTC Jan. 19, 2020. The test involved launching a Falcon 9 rocket with Crew Dragon on top. Roughly 80-90 seconds into flight -- in the most extreme part of the ascent profile -- the first stage engines shut off. This started the abort sequence as the Crew Dragon's eight SuperDraco thrusters fired to propel the spacecraft away from the rocket. |

Space Bulletin
|
Organization: SpaceFlight Insider
Publication: March to May 2019 In March 2019, I began writing, filming and editing a weekly news bulletin video called "Space Bulletin." Each video is four to six minutes and usually covers about five space news topics. These range from the big stories of the week to smaller, less-covered topics. For the first 10 episodes, I researched and wrote the script, filmed and edited the video, and uploaded the video to YouTube with custom thumbnails and scheduled it for an appropriate time — usually Saturday morning. Additionally, I outlined an detailed workflow to serve as a guide for future Space Bulletin episodes to be produced by a team at SpaceFlight Insider. |
NASA InSight Mars mission overview
|
Organization: Spaceflight Insider
Publication: May 5, 2018 For this video, I interviewed Bruce Banerdt, the principal investigator for NASA's Mars Insight mission, and Tim Linn, the "Entry, Decent and Landing" manager for Lockheed Martin, inside a clean room at Vandenberg Air Force Base in the weeks leading up to launch. The mission launched on May 5, 2018, and landed on the Red Planet about six months later. |

In addition to a number of individual graphics and videos, I also create infographics for various topics for Orbital Velocity. These include cargo mission graphics, info formation on spacecraft and rockets, such as the SLS and Orion, and an Artemis program checklist. |
Lunar Gateway paper model
Organization: Orbital Velocity
As a gift for people who sign up for Orbital Velocity's monthly newsletter, "The Space Capsule," I created a paper model for NASA's Lunar Gateway. You can check out more images here. The model was created in Adobe Illustrator and is in a 1:100 scale. If you'd like your own, you can sign up for the newsletter. You'll receive it in your welcome email. |
Election 2016 spread
Organization: Washburn Review
Publication: Nov. 9, 2016 I created a spread to showcase the results of the Nov. 8, 2016, election. One of the main highlights of this page was the creation of the electoral map. Rather than use a geographical representation, I split each state into their respective number of electors. Each elector was one box. Additionally, the Kansas results for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and state supreme court justices were included below the U.S. map. This was created in advance of the election and updated throughout election night before the Washburn Review's print deadline.

ISS spacecraft graphics for Orbital Velocity
|
Organization: Orbital Velocity
Using Adobe Illustrator, I create a number of graphics for Orbital Velocity to showcase the various spacecraft that visit the International Space Station, the rockets used to loft them into space, and more. Many of these graphics are also used in videos created for Orbital Velocity, while some are placed on their respective visiting vehicle pages on the website. |
