In May 2019, I traveled to Utah on behalf of Spaceflight Insider to cover Northrop Grumman's first full-duration static fire test of its OmegA rocket first stage. The booster behind me was 12 feet wide and 80 feet long. During the 122-second test, the motor produced more than 2 million pounds of maximum thrust.

Hi, I'm Derek.
I'm a writer, editor and visual storyteller. I primarily create content about the space industry, but I also do freelance editing and research. During my spare time I create video content about the human spaceflight on my YouTube channel, Orbital Velocity. While I primarily write about the space industry, my commitment to excellence extends to all my creative endeavors. I graduated from Washburn University in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in mass media with an emphasis in contemporary journalism. I also have a minor in history. Find me on Threads, where I often share news and thoughts about space exploration while occasionally sharing pictures of my pets. I look forward to hearing from you! |
